Bring it!
Today I am feeling very fiesty, and you'll find out why, and see it in the way I post!
I have been mulling it in my head for awhile, but first off I want to say that I think MY WIFE IS THE HERO for FULLY supporting me in my career choice! I am not the hero for leaving and helping others, she is for having to totally change her schedule and priorities for our family!
Our kids are the most important things in our lives besides each other, and tht is why I am a stay at home dad when I am home! NOBODY, can tell me they have been affected by my deployment like my wife and kids, and for those of you that sit home and think that for whatever reason you can have an opinion as to why I chose this path, and why my wife supports me, or think that you should be able to have an opinion as to how she should should deal with it in a certain way, whether it be by hiding her feelings, or faking it, well I say SCREW YOU!
It's easy to sit back and say that from your confines in friendly old MN, but try branching out!
The world isn't about you, and life does not stop for you, and it WILL NOT stop when your toes up! I'm going to be a little selfish by saying if people like me didn't do what they do, people like you wouldn't be able to expell such garbage freely! If you don't support the war, well, first off, I don't agree w/ you, but your able to have that opinion! And I also say that if your basing that opinion by watching the news, well you need to get a life! The news tells, 1/3 of the story, if that, and that story isn't right most of the time! These people use kids, and women, and civilians to shield their attacks, and bait the americans! I've seen video, and it will blow you away!
You can complain about why the war started, but that is over, it was 2 years ago! Now you need to get a new opinion! We believe in the outcome, and we're actually making a difference in the outcome! All your doing is complaining, and that isn't doing anyone any good!
All who I'm talking about should know who they are, and if you fell lie your one of them, you probably are! Get a life! Don't worry about the decisions I make!
You find out AFTER you leave who really meant what they said BEFORE I left!
I don't forget those things!
This by no means takes away the appreciation for the support given to me and my family so far! Please keep the comments coming, and I'll try to address it in my posts!

Try not to let the self-absorbed, selfish whiners get to you & your family. Trust me, you have more people supporting you & the mission you are on then not, despite what the idiotic media pundits would like to portray. I couldn't agree with you more when you say your family is truly heroic in the way they are supporting you in the time the nation needs you to do the hard, right thing. The easy way is seldom the right way. Remember as Edmund Burke said, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.’

I could go on for days about the miserable media, but I'll keep it short. I have always had more respect for you than I have for most of the people I know. You have an awesome life and I have to admit that I'm a bit of a copy cat (You know, Part time stay-at-home-dad . . .I guess I'm afraid of commitment ).
I don't know what was said and I'm not sure that I really want to. People in this country need to get on board with the program. Stop pampering prisoners (well, stop doing weird stuff to them, too. That's an old interrogator joke.) and above all, stop making our men and women moving targets while you question every move they make.
I know, first hand, what it feels like to be a piece of hanging meat out in the open market of anti-american criminals. When you come home, you and your family will have a sense of pride in what you ALL accomplished for this country and this world.
Sometime in your life, (While you and I are selling VFW Buddy Poppies, hint, hint) some little boy or girl, will come up to you and tell you "Thank You". You will fight back the tears as you come to realize that what you did actually matters to someone outside of your own family.
Erik, what you and your family are doing is very important to my family. From Hailey on up to Grandma and Grampa(Vietnam Vet). We are looking forward to your return, but we are also anxiously watching the journey of a true american family.

Erik, your post packed a punch and I am sorry for the stuff that's gotten to you. You know in your heart that you're doing the right thing for you, Missy and the kids and most of all, my dear, for all of us. You and Missy have an amazing marriage and it shines for all of us to see. By your examples, you are displaying courage, compromise, sacrifice and selflessness and most of all, LOVE!
