Sacrifice!!!!
I have to apoligise for the swear word I used the other day, as I was fired up and I let it out. I have since changed it to MOFO, and will try not cuss severely like that anymore!
I want to say CONGRATULATIONS to my parents Skip(Orin) and Shirley who had their 37th wedding anniversary yesterday. I hope you two had rockin evening! Man, did I say that?
Anyways I hope you had a good day, and I can have some champagne with you when I get home.
I have only been getting a few comments thus far on my classes, so I hope people are reading what I have to say, as todays subject is going to be about SACRIFICE! A lot of people make SACRIFICES every day in the world, and they carry a lot of ramifications, some more severe than others. The MW definition states, aside from the SACRIFICE of killing part, it is the destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else, or something given up or lost! Well, again, like yesterdays subject LOYALTY, we can use this for different meaning to suit our situations. I guess the easiest way to give an example here is to once again take our fictional company employee Pat, and give her a situation where Pat had really been an asset to the company she worked for and was given praise when good things happened. Through Pats time with the company Pat had really excelled and was given great opportunity. Pat though, through time had to make SACRIFICES, and most of the time the SACRIFICES benefited the company Pat worked for, in being Pat had to give of time with family, and time Pat needed to grow outside of her job. This SACRIFICE allowed Pat to be succesful at the company, but made Pat realize the lack of oneness with family Pat once enjoyed! So you could see that as either a good or a bad SACRIFICE, whichever way you want to look at it! On the flip side, in a good way, we can say that Pat, seeing the need to get closer to family, and get priorities in order took a chance, because realizing the need for this, Pat SACRIFICED the career once so important to Pat, because of the shell Pat was in working there, and SACRIFICED the prospect of Pats families well being financially to realize the more important way! In a twist, it did not hurt that Pats boss Jo told Pat a choice needed to be made. Career or Family? Because others that were succesful there at the company already had made that choice! Well, Pat was actually asked to SACRIFICE something for the sake of something else! I know that is hard to believe a boss would ask something like that, but again we can only make this true......total fabrication up, because we thank god we don't have any leaders like this in our land of the free, and the home of the brave! Unfortunately sometimes, home of the cowards!!!!!!
Just make sure when you make your SACRIFICE it is not at the expense of what is right and will make MORE than you benefit!!
CLASS DISMISSED!!!!

Erik

Dear Erik,
I am enjoying your series and would like to comment, from my opinion, using your examples.
Pat is a very honorable and wise person for standing up for what he/she believes in and values in life. He/she will never have any regrets for doing so. For Jo, or anyone else, to even think or openly suggest that a choice needs to be made between career and family is a clear sign that he/she has lost touch with clarity and reality and all the beautiful things this world has to offer us in the short time we are here. Unfortunately, Jo and the others who have made the career choice in your example won't realize it until it is way too late. His/her spouse and childern (if they even exist) won't likely be there when Jo needs or wants them to be, like when he/she is old and lonely or laying in a hospice bed dying a painful death.
On the other hand, Pat's life will be rich and full with his/her family at his/her side, and his/her loytaly, honesty, candor, and sacrafice will open many new doors.
Thank you for what you are doing for our country, and for this series that helps all of us step back and reassess the value of doing what is truly right.
I am very glad this is a made up story. It would be sad to think that there are people like Jo.

I think if you look into this a little bit deeper, you will notice that even though "Pat" got screwed big time by not only "Jo" but also her other peers and supervisors at this company, that "Pat" did what was right in her heart. If at the end of the day, "Pat" can lay her head down and know that it's more important to take care of the needs of her family than to climb the corporate ladder, than I think she'll sleep very well. You see, what "Jo" doesn't get is that not only did "Jo" hurt herself by letting a very valuable asset get away, she also helped "Pat's" carrer potentially. If "Pat" would have stayed at the company, she would have always been doing what is right and helping others and getting nothing out of it. I say if they don't appreciate "Pat" then they don't deserve her! So if "Pat" does some looking around, I'd be willing to bet that she could find a position that not only is comparable to the one she had, but had the potential to really turn into a great opportunity for her and her family. As for "Jo" and the rest of the company, they will probably get what they have coming to them eventually. This whole scenario seems familiar to me...Maybe I saw a "Law and Order" episode like it or something.

"Pat" has her/his issues all squared away & I am very proud of that individual in that sucky situation. Hope Pat knows there are alot of others in this situation & should be forwarding your class to their "Jo's"
You're a very wise individual & so is Pat
