No.......Thank YOU kids!!!!!

Got a huge card from Madisons class a couple days ago and I took some pictures of it in Iraq o the kids could see where the card went and that it got here. I can tell you that I LOVE when classes send stuff over here, and even though most of the times it is a project, they write some honest observations. So to Ms. Berlings class that Madison is in at Cottage Grove Elementary, thank YOU for the card with all your luck! When I was on leave in March I went to Madisons class to speak and was VERY surprised to hear the knowledge of 3rd graders about the military and the U.S. in general. I get very sketchy about talking to kids about war, and reasons WHY we are here, but tell them that we are doing things to make the world better, and well, even if you are against the war we are doing things for the betterment of someone elses society, including our own.
If the crap we do over here now draws terrorists over here to fight Americans, then I guess we have created a diversion away from U.S. targets in our country! AND slowly terrorists are dying off, or depending on the day, RAPIDLY! When you are in a different country, in an isolated society with minimal media outlets to see, you begin to realize what the rest of the world sees of the U.S. and find out why a lot of the world does not like us! Honestly, in America, we are all a bunch a spoiled brats from afar, and the things we argue about are just obsurd.
We can blame it on the press, but when our politicians are being brought up on charges of some type of scandal on a regular basis, why would the rest of the world like us? Hate to say it, but at least Saddam let it all out on the table, and told you he didn't like you, and willingly stole from his people, they chose not to uprise, but he wasn't hiding anything. In America, we think our politicians will, in the end, take care of our needs, but reality is they run for office with THEMSELVES, and their careers in mind. Think about it, Clinton ALWAYS had the goal of being president. So his priority #1 was NOT the American people, but himself. Hilary included. New York Senator? Cmon!! The list includes our current president, vice president, Mr. Gore, Mr. Kerry, and Edwards! Take someone like Colin Powell, and look that he put a long military career in, and could get somewhere politically, but probably will choose not to!
I like Ike. Dwight D. Eisenhower! Same thing! Ted Kennedy? HELLO!! Why does he even get elected? if you are a POLITICIAN for more than 8 years at the same level, you need to GO! Either retire, or go to the next level up! Arnold Schwarzenegger? Good! Even Jesse Ventura! Like him or not, but he acted on his feelings, not for a career!
Alright, I got off on a rant, but just wanted to thank some American kids for thinking about us.
I also want to thank Mrs. Tester from CGE who is my friend, and was on the planning team with me when the school opened. She teaches Phy Ed. there, and she has been GREAT on my deployment. She lives not too far from us, and has offered to watch the kids, bring them home from after school activities, and have her kids play with ours. Thanks Gina, and thanks Ms. Berling, Rick Houston(principal), Carolyn Hoffman in the office, also T. Hall for all your support this year. Plenty of others there at the school, a lot whom I have known since we were on the planning team together, thank you as well!
That is a place where you want to live Cottage Grove, Minnesota. It has so much potential, and new growth to go, also so much history. Right on a beautiful part of the Mississippi River, The Mighty Mississipp, the Ole Miss., the old man......to qoute Clark Griswold from Vacation!
A great school system, and the best thing is that you can live 5 minutes away from the riches of Woodbury without the price(Well, for the most part)!
Wow, I sound like the Chamber of Commerce!
Have a great day!
Later,
Erik

That is great to see the kids sending to you guys.
Thanks for the Mississippi mentions, you know we need all the help that we can get.
Stay Safe Erik. Thanks for serving our country.
You know Erik I do agree with you about move on or move up. But at the same time, they keep getting elected so they must be doing something right (even if it is only pulling a fast one on the people).
When you are in the same position for that long (epically in national government) you loose sight of the people (my thoughts. You are disconnected and where you had good intensions you are now "one of them"
Well that is my 2 cents and thanks to people like you, I can give it whether you want it or not.
Ryan
I WANT your 2 cents Ryan!
And thanks for changing my light bulbs!
Anytime!
Ryan
That is sooo sweet! I think it helps the kids realize that the soliders over there are someone's daddy, brother, uncle, sister, cousin, whatever... it give a face to the solider.
I agree with the move on or move up- but also agree with Ryan - we do keep electing them...so why would they do more than they need to, or take risks?
I really don't understand why other countries hate us. We are just trying to live our lives to the best of our ability - as are they.
They laugh and celebrate when our buildings are bombed or when one of our great cities is torn apart by a hurricane.
But the minute something terrible happens to them, they are all "America, America, HELP!!" and "What do you mean you're only sending 5 Million dollars?"
If they are going to behave in such an offensive manner when something goes bad for us, I say screw 'em when they need help.
Sorry for the rant.
How cool is that. I bet you make Madison so proud.
Erik did you get over to Dan's little spot in the sand yet? If you didn't drop into J Barnes coffee shop and have a cup of his world famous coffee. LOL
Erik,
You know, you are totally right about us Americans...but it's people like you and my kids and all the other military that are showing them a side of Americans that needs to be seen. And that would be the sacrifices that you and all of our loved ones who serve are making to help others even if it means risking your life for total strangers. Not to mention the sacrifice that your family is making. You represent the best of the best our country has..thank you for being who you are. God bless you.
I'm surprised to see you discuss your daughter's class and your observations on the kids and the war. You're right. The kids should be proud of soldiers protecting our country! Imagine their young faces; however and that of their teacher when they read YOUR observations on goat sex and hottie comments about your wife (their mom) in front of their classmates! The conversation at lunch must be interesting.
Maybe I am crabby this morning, and you all know I HATE anonymous comments, but this site is all encompassing, and I am not gonna sugar coat things. In life thngs are the way they are, and not everything is preschool screened. Kids can come onto my site ANYTIME they want anyways regardless. Yeah, and when they ask me IN CLASS if I could die, I say YES, because it is the TRUTH! If they ask me if I am afraid I say YES, because it is the truth. So, believe me, it does cross my mind, but for me to shield ANY kid from REALITY is just fake, and I won't do it. I don't think my kids read my site, and I sure don't advertise it to kids, but it isn't like I give a shit if they do! do you think I care that my kids hear me say that my wife is HOT? Hell NO! I want them to grow up and tell their spouse that they are hot. I don't see anything wrong with that, DO YOU?
As far as the sheep, oh frickin well, so they learn a little 4H lesson while they are at it!
But, maybe you were kidding, I just think I would have gotten the kidding if you would have put a name to it!
Good come back to anonymous, Erik. It's your blog and your kids.
I think your kids should know you love your wife. I read somewhere that kids that see their parents show affection are more secure, than kids who just see fighting and turmoil between their parents. When you show affection, and that includes thinking your wife is hot, your kids pick up on that and it lets them know Daddy ain't going anywhere. He loves my mom.
The best compliment I ever had was when one of my sons told me, that his fiancee and their relationship was "just like you and dad's," so he knew it was good. Kids learn from their parents.
The goat sex stuff...well that, I think, comes out of frustration. Just trying to laugh away the lonliness.
Go suck an egg anonymous and get a sense of humor.
Have a nice day Erik. Stay safe!
Erik- I think that is more then healthy to talk about how you view missy and for your kids to hear that- It shows them how to grow up and have a healthy marriage. And if they get a lesson on how not to treat their pets- Thats good too. If parents let kids on the internet with out supervision- I think yours is prob one of the less offensive sites they could be viewing!! -The Connerys
New to reading your blog, found you through the Way Back Wednesday thing...great that you appreciate the card and took a pic for the kids...stay safe and thank you for serving!
