Pretty Emotional!!!

As you can see my room is pretty bare, and it got the best of me today, as I had to just go down to the empty room and marinate for a little bit. I got to thinking about all the things I went through in that room. How many time Curt got up in the middle of the night and pounded on the wall in the room next to ours for making too much noise. All the times the walls shook from mortars and IED's in the distance. All the times I woke up in the middle of the night to pee in a bottle! YEs, those were the days, but now it is time to move on.
All kidding aside, the crying bit WAS an act, as I am NOT sad to leave here. Yes, the habits I have formed on my own will be a task to go back to normal like, and from a perspective back in the states it may not seem like that big of deal, but I know it will be a bigger task than imagined.
I cleared everything finally today, and got everything sent home that I needed to, before the trip. I hope it gets there, but that is what insurance is for! Our 2nd of 2 Bronze Star winners in our office has been on me to get him onto the roof of the palace to fly his flag for him, since he procrastinated for months, and we were able to get up there and I took some pics with where the flag that gets flown on top the palace goes. And with me in it!
So, if you all can't guess what the next post after this one will be, then I don't know what to tell you! But, I at least know that the Vikes won for some reason last night, and I know all you Packer fans are having to be talked off the ledge this morning! Especially MAMADUCK!
Yep, I saw the VI-QUEENS comment! I don't necessarily disagree with you, but today I DO!
I want to thank EVERYONE for the support in this endeavor for myself and my family!
I just am blessed to even be able to have included so many on this journey. That fact that people even give a crap is just very humbling to me, and I may joke quite a bit, and laugh at a lot of things, but I will NEVER forget all the entertainment and friendship that were formed on this LONG STRANGE TRIP. I am not saying goodbye, but from Baghdad, I will update my steps along the way till home, and will DO MY BEST to let people in on the homecoming that will take place! Please understand in advance that I will update as time permits, but please don't go away if I don't post everyday, just keep checking back!
It has been an honor to serve my country in this part of the world where regardless of what anyone says, they NEED structure! We ARE making a difference!
GOD BLESS THE HEROES WHO WON'T MAKE IT HOME! YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN BY ME! IF NOT FOR THE HEROISM OF YOU, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THIS SAFE FROM HARM!
For those brethren that are coming over in the future, you are in my prayers as well. Stay safe in your journey, and thanks for letting me be honored to serve alongside you! Especially the 1st BCT from MN, whatever I can do to man the homefront I will!
God Bless all of you that are in my life and have played a part in this from afar! If not for great people both online and at home, this would not have been as bearable!
See you soon!
Later,
Erik

Your post made me tear up today, Eric. I'm so happy for you and pray for your safety as you return home. I will be so glad to hear of the day when you're finally back in Missy's arms. May God's face shine upon you and may He be gracious to You as you finally end your "Long Strange Trip."

shoot -- just noticed I spelled your name wrong above. sorry about that. :) Erik Holtan. It's a good name to be proud of.
Erik,
Ok, YOU may not have been crying, but after reading your post, I sit here at my desk at work with real tears. Thankfully, it's lunch hour and I don't have to worry about making errors in my processing because I can't see straight. Erik, your rank may be a SGT, but from here, all I see is an officer and a gentleman. A brave and dedicated soldier who I am blessed to have as a friend. God bless your journey my friend...it's been a long time coming.

Erik,
I am so proud to have gotten to know such a great man. You really do make me proud to be an American. You are not only a great father and husband, but a great friend. I know Mis can't wait to have you home. Hug them all so tight!!!! Okay, enough mushyness.
You big whiney cry baby....who knew you were so damn sensitive. Maybe Curt could move in next door to yah. LOL.....I had to say something smartass, all that sentimental crap could ruin my reputation.
Erik - Thanks for sharing your long strange trip with us. We've been with you in spirit, and are oh-so-happy to see you heading home. We will remember your fallen brothers and sisters of all services, thank you all for being fine examples of American spirit!
Erik, will be praying for your safe return and will wait to rejoice when we see the pictures of you and your lovely family safe at home.
