Overdue!

Well, I got a disk with all the homecoming photos and provided they are uploading at a decent speed I will post a few.
I have to apoligise for not posting more, or commenting on some sites I frequent. Actually even visiting sites, we have been pretty busy.
Missy and I attended some reintegration classes today, and I think it was VERY helpful for her to be there with me to understand my thought process since I have been back. It also was good for me to go to and realize that I am having normal reactions to the ABNORMAL experience I have gotten back from, as well as my family and me getting back to and what they expect from me ,and I expect from them. Missy and I have talked about them, but until you actually have someone tell you the normal things you go through coming back it isn't easy for both sides to understand. Hearing someone say what is normal and what is gonna be a normal adjustment for a couple months makes us BOTH understand a little more. Missy and I are good communicators to each other and that helps, but I guess when you come back the first thing you want to do is get back on the horse and get on with the race, however, even for what I expected coming home, it does take adjusting. Being that it is Christmas it makes it a little more hectic and we had our first Christmas celebration yesterday, and I don't mind going this year to say hi to poeple that have kept track of me maybe even moreso than other years as far as family goes is nice.
You learn a definition of what the difference of deployment life and real life is. In deployment we live simply, and have very few choices personally to make, and tha tends up to be pretty easy for me. Meanwhile the family is making the same decisions in a hectic world without you. When you get home, even from making your own lunch, you have decisions, and the first day I had to make lunch for myself it was a process, because I could not just get it served to me. Sounds simple, but it is an adjustment.
I am not minding the cold yet as much as I thought I would, but maybe it is because we have been busy!
OK, and what is this thing this year around the holidays with people not saying Merry Christmas, but Happy Holidays?
It's frickin Christmas, and it is a religious holiday, not some Hallmark giftgiving made up holiday! At my kids school they sang We wish you a Happy Holiday, and at another program I went to they did the same thing. Yet, at my daughters program they sang a Hannukah song! WTH??? How is that?
If you DON'T celebrate Jesus birth for what it is then reap the benefits of your gifts and SHUT UP! Let us that DO believe in our beliefs enjoy it for what we believe it is for, or else DON'T bother us and stick to what you believe in. I am not a fanatical in religion, but in our country we don't want to ever offend the minority in EVERY aspect. Well, as the majority it is offending ME! We are by inlarge a Christian country and I don't mind when the Jewish want to celebrate Hannukah, or Muslims celebrate Ramadan, or whoever else in Whoville wants to celebrate whatever they want. LET ME CELEBRATE MINE. Or don't put on these CHRISTMAS programs and don't mention CHRISTMAS! If I offended anyone, THEN MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Have a good week my friends, and we'll talk to you later!
Later,
Erik

MERRY CHRISTMAS to the Holtan Family!!!
Erik Hey I am sure there whole re civilian home life is a big change. From one military family to another it is something we work threw alll the time. It does get easier. I understand about the busy busy busy. LOL Christmas time such a busy time for me. Well I just got home to Iowa. Let me tell ya the cold sure is bothering me. Colorado was warmer lol. I feel bad I have not been able to check my blogs or even comment on the ones I like to go to all the time. Travel time you know lol. I hope you all have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! I wanted to get up to the Mall of America while I was home to. I do not see the time I am going to get that done. Even though I am only 4 hours away. LOL
Again, what a beautiful family you have Erik. You are blessed thousands of times to have them. I am sure that it is a big adjustment. My son is on his way home now, and I have already started to worry about those same things.
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Erik, I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to comment yet, but I just wanted to say that I'm so glad you are back home with your family and will get to be with them for the holidays. :) Stay warm!
Welcome Home!!!
I wish you and your family a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year.
I am so glad ya'll took advantage of those classes. Most people do not realize how difficult it is getting back to normal after a deployment. I am so glad you are home and so happy for Mis. Let me know when it is okay to call so she can scream and yell and tell me how thrilled she is to have you home. Merry Christmas!!!;)
I am more sick of people saying how sick they are from hearing happy holidays.
I agree with you all but let it go. You say merry christmas, email the big stores and tell them to get back to christmas not "holidays" then boycott their stores until they change!
My 2 cents
Ryan
Amen and Merry Christmas!
I can't imagine getting back into the swing of things at the height of the holidays. Hope all goes well and you guys take the time for yourselves that you need.
Welcome back, and I hope the transition goes smoothly.
Amen on the Merry Christmas, my friend.
ROTFL... welcome back to America! :) See how fast things change when you are gone?
Funny how PC everything has to be, isn't it? Even Christ birth. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Merry Christmas!
You got that right....MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Good luck with the adjustments to "normal" life - you will do great - just keep talking...
Merry Christmas to you and your family. I agree with you, even though I am Jewish, things have gotten way to nuts with the PC thing.
Any time away from your loved ones takes time to adjust back into the daily routines of things! I have no doubt that ya'll will come through with flying colors! It's so heart warming to hear that there still are people out there living the American Dream that you and others give up so much for! Merry Christmas to each of you!
Erik, We have the same thing with our daughter and every day gets better, but it does take some getting used to. So glad to see these beautiful pictures. Have a very Merry Christmas.
Barb
I can't imagine how hard the adjustment must be sometimes - keep those communication lines open!
Hope that you and Mis and the kids all have a Very Merry Christmas!
Welcome home, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
