Progress!
You have got to be excited today about this countries ability to now have a CHOICE as to what goes down here! This election isn't gonna solve everything, but I will say you have to call it MAJOR progress! Yes, there are bombing going on, and there are still terrorists effecting things, but look at the excitement on the peoples faces after they vote! Imagine what it's like in America voting for your candidate, and watching if they win, it is usually a euphoric day! Even if your candidate loses it's a great day, because you have a choice! I don't care what everyone says we came over here to do origionally, but even if the WMD thing was sketchy, we have done a service to others that weren't able to do it themselves! That is reason enough for me, because with every reward there is risk, and there was risk coming in to this that the election planning would not work, and the people would not support it!
Did you know that our military is going to be taking commands from the Iraqi's once the government is in place? Even now, we are on the sidelines for the election, and the Iraq police, and NG are pulling security for this election! Progress!!!!!!
2 years ago, the very building I sit in, was a place no american would have ever been allowed in this area, and the area was ruled w/ iron fisted tyranny!
Now it is a place that we are able to use, and we'll be sometime in the future give to the Iraqi army, w/ all the improvements they need!
It is cool, or eery to also know where I sit is an area that was used w/ such negativity, and also is used for positivity now!
I'll stop the editorial for now, but most of us watching the news here, are seeing good things, and hearing good things about the day! I don't know, maybe by the time the news gets back to the states, it gets filtered, but don't believe the negative!
Later,
Erik

Erik,
Thanks so much for maintaining this web site. Even though we haven’t talked much in recent years, having someone in Iraq who you remember riding his Big-Wheel down to your house every day, building forts with, and learning to ski with adds a personal dimension to the war that was previously absent for me. I find that I’m paying more attention to each day’s events in your area and your posts are a daily point of discussion for both my family and friends at work. Lastly, I’m proud to know someone who is so selflessly serving his country.
Like Missy, I am happy to see some humor return to your latest posts. I understand everything is not all roses, but I’m confident that maintaining a positive attitude during your deployment will allow you to be even more effective in your activities over there.
I look forward to your future posts and the personal, front line perspective they offer. (To be honest, I’m a bit shocked that you have so much access to communication vehicles, but grateful nonetheless!)
Keep your head up and good luck!
Mike
From the news here people look very happy. It has got to feel good to finaly be able to vote in a free election!

"Hi" Erik,
It was great to read your posting about the voting, it would be wonderful if we all had that much excitement when we go to vote. Sometimes having so much is not the best, we seem to have a harder time knowing how blessed we are in this country. God bless you and all the other men and women who are sacrificing so much for people you don't even know. WOW!!! Please let us know what we can do to support you and the others who serve our country.
WE are so proud of you and we all miss you alot. It is an honor to pray for you. We love you.
Gods peace and blessings,
Dad and Mom Skillings
