Thinking!
I couldn't think of a name for this post, but I was thinking about one, and therefore I called it thinking, because it got the thinking process overwith earlier, plus I just realized that spelling thinking really fast on the keyboard is really quite cool! Try it. It is like playing a George Lynch guitar solo! Anyway, enough with the small talk!
Remember when I was talking about how when the cats are away the mice will play, and that is normally good, but those cats are usually the ones that protect the house from bigger animals when they are home, and in this case it could not be more accurate. See, when your protectors are gone to stand up for you, you get tasked with a lot more because you can't say no or argue your point, and I am in no mood to argue any points right now, so I play the good soldier and bend over. That is fine, because we get the job done, but I can say that the bickering between the people that plan those missions, and are in the upper echelon who talk behind each others backs as really high leadership is amazing. People that have gotten somewhere, but will use other people to make themselves look good, or making other people look horrible to escape their mistakes!!! And then bragging about it, or basking in somebody elses failure! HMMMMMM, WHERE HAVE I SEEN THAT BEFORE??????????????????????????
I think all you in the know and who get it can figure that out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways, attacks have been on the upswing, especially in our area, and I saw in the StarTribune they had a story of the VBIED at the BIAP(airport) checkpoint. That was our gate here, and the Liberty PX was hit by a couple rockets the other night right in the middle of eating area, so prayers go out to the SGT killed then, and I know they had a memorial service today. I don't know if they(Al Quieda) are making a last hurrah, or these are lucky strikes, but like I said this was going to be a heavy week, especially in Baghdad, and it has, so lets hope the idiots are on the last of their ammo, and they all are being wasted by suicide bombs that hit nobody, and the Iraqi people can fight themselves, but it is a powerful sight seeing the sight of a fresh attack and they summons 2 Apache helicopters to hover over for security. It looks like 2 hornets hovering in the air! And the F16's that come in, I don't know really how anyone would mess around with that, because even if they live they are going to die!
I don't normally say things about attacks, but I want to let people know that it is real! And it is still real to me, and some nights I just want to forget I am here, and when I wake up in the morning and I am here, it sucks, because usually I have dreams about home. Either about my wife or kids, and then I wake up and realze I am here, and I gotta say the dreams are much better than reality!
I do all this talk for therapy purposes, and not to make people worry, or feel bad, but also to let people know that even though I have decent facilities, and am hooked up more than most people, doesn't mean that we are in a safe zone, and sometimes even we forget!
Anyways, I think building on my theme from the other day, when I get back I might start one of those organizations myself. And I know they ALL do great things, but I also know a lot of stuff from those places gets thrown away, but I want to gather things , and send things theyreally need, and not little packets of candy, but maybe bigger things, like send Playstations, or TV's, or bigger items to units and let them build a day room for all their soldiers! Well just a thought, but I am serious, and I might raise money before I even come home! See I know that a couple thousand MN soldiers are going somewhere in Sept. so I can start with them!
Thanks for the rant!
Later,
Erik

Erik, rant all you want! I watched a TV piece last about PTSD and how it is the gaping wound of this war. We are here for you even though we can't begin to imagine what you are feeling. You have so much support here in the States and we so appreciate what you are doing for us.
My love and prayers are always with you. Sweet dreams!
Anne

Hey brotha. I love to hear you rant! It's one thing to bitch and moan and quite another to vent and let us know the real deal over there, so keep it up! Thanks for the forward planning. It will be nice to have a day room all set up when I come over this fall or winter. Of course, there will be an extra couple thousand soldiers with me so if you could mail me the remote control, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks you in advance for that! Your always looking out for the little guy...wait a minute, I'm not a very little guy. Does that mean you are trying to keep me down? Is it because I'm only half white? Seriously, people need to know what is going on over there as the media only seems to show us the bad things and even those are partial stories. Unless Paul Harvey comes over and does one of those "The rest of the story" segments, we will continue to rely on our friends that are deployed to understand what it's really like over there.
Just wanted to say hi :) Pete sure could've used your landscaping/handy man help today- we're putting up a chain link fence- Pete's out there with the shop vac. cleaning out the holes for the posts (don't worry he used a post hole digger to dig it out- not the vac!) At least he's imaginative with his projects- right? keep up the good work!! miss ya-

Thanks Anne, I guess I have somthing to look forward to, PTSD, when I get back! Kidding!
I decided I am gonna get in on the comments part so people can interact w/ me. Trac(or Trase) I had a dream(nightmare) about you last night! You were at AT, and that so was I! Not this year!
And Michelle, tell Pete to stop vacuuming the dirt. Why don't you have him call that nutsack Hastings and ask for some advice! And D rock, thanks for the pics of TX, and you will like it here, or the TOP SECRET place the MNARNG goes. HELLO! We already know there are troops in Iraq, it isn't a secret! But I will let the brass pretend they are in the know. But you'll have fun in Iraq! But in the words of the common man, I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotemy!

Let me know when you start taking donation. imight be able to send a little something for the game room or whatever.
Your post made me a little teary. I think we all like to believe you are in a safe little bubble. The reality of War is not appealing but I know that a lot of great things will come of this mess.
In the mean time your son has become a bit of a con man or I am just naive. I had the thrill of accompanying him on his class fieldtrip to the Como Zoo, he failed to mention that they were not allowed to go on any rides. Well, we were getting a bit bored waiting for Sparky and decided not to watch the show. Hunter wanted to make sure we went by the rides (he saw the new ones on the news the night before) and his classmate Kyle wanted to make sure we got to the gift store. So much for the animals. Kyle and Hunter went on a couple of rides - they did have a lot of fun! It was worth any bit of trouble I may have caused. Hunter saved his money for sugar and Kyle did make it to the gift shop. We didn't even see the gorilla's and they are my favorite.
We miss you lots,
Love always,
