VACATION!!!!!!
Yep, if you didn't see the comment I posted on Thanksgiving, well then Happy Thanksgiving!
We are at Ali Ah Salem AB in Kuwait awaiting our flight out of here back to the states. It will be next week sometime that we head out, but for now, I gotta tell you, it seems like we are on vacation, and I guess I needed it more than I knew. I never got the chance to go to Qatar on pass as I chose to not do it. Although I was asked if I wanted to. I guess I still am fine with not doing it, but it has been since March that I had leave so it had been awhile since I had the chance to decompress. And when you are in Iraq for awhile you get comfortable with what you have there, and I remember when I was in Kuwait BEFORE I went to Iraq, I thought it sucked, but man, there must have been a lot of improving done this past year cause I do like it now!
Like I said in my comments yesterday, we spent Thanksgiving with the heroes over at Camp Arifjan, and they are livin the life over there. That place is a military mecca in the middle east compared to ANYWHERE else I had been. I gave Pavel and Torgerson lots of crap about having it ROUGH, as I heard that people call it ArifJAIL!! Man, I would take that place over Iraq in a second!!! Oh well, we took the bus yesterday over there and it was cool, drove by the Persian Gulf so that is something I had not seen. Kuwaits coasts around that area are obviously oil refinery and shipping ports, not alot of resorts. OK, zero resorts! It felt like we were going to DisneyWorld or something, and hanging out here is relaxing, and I don't feel bad, I have nothing to do anyways. Got to get up this morning, run a little PT, get my haircut, get coffee and a donut at Hol-N-One donut shop, go shopping at these shops around here, and come over to use the internet. Feels like a 4 day pass to me. I will take it!
But that 4 day pass is nothing compared to the 300 day pass that Pavel and Torgerson had at Arifjan. I am trying to piss Torgerson off, cause that is what I do best!
I am looking forward to getting home and giving my family a big hug and thanks for all the support in everyones comments.
Have a great day, and I will post more of my shamming tommorrow!
Later,
Erik

Erik,
I WAS fortunate enough to read your post last night on the Comment page...YAY that you are enjoying a little bit of down time although I know that you just want to be home.
What a joy it will be for you and Mis and the kids to finally be together.
The lake effect snow machine is running in all it's glory here in WNY - but it is beautiful.
Take care my friend - and may God bless your journey home.
Yay for vacation...there's nothing like, errrr, that I recall anyway. I haven't actually been on one in about three years, but I remember them being nice.
:)
Glad that you are enjoying a little down time. Very much needed and deserved I am sure.
The donut hole, that was the very first picture that my son sent me when he arrived in Kuwait. LOL...
Have a safe trip and enjoy your family.
Be safe man and enjoy the down time. I bet the family is crazy awaiting your arrival. Don't be nervous Mis!!!!;)
Best regards from NY! » »
